This week was a gentle re-introduction into some focused triathlon training while attempting to overcome jetlag and post-nightshifts fatigue. I almost fell at the first hurdle by accidently sleeping all day after my last nightshift on Monday morning instead of the usual 1-2 hour nap. I felt absolutely awful after waking up at 5pm and was not in the mood for going anywhere but Chris managed to drag me out of bed and out for a gentle run and I am very grateful for that as I felt much better afterwards. On Wednesday I did my ‘long’ run and am relieved at this stage that it is only 12.5km. The ‘long ride’ came on Thursday (60km) and I really felt the effects of not having done much cycling over the past few months. I did a short brick run (3km) off the bike to try and remind my legs what it feels like to run off the bike. The rest of the week was relatively easy in terms of training load (30-40min sessions) as I was working 8.30am-9pm Friday-Sunday. Overall the first week has gone to plan – I’m finally getting over the jet-lag and all sessions were completed as planned.
